Just wondering if you wear these? And if so, when did you start buying
them?

I used to wonder why I so many older women wearing these. And then one day
it dawned on me. Because they can! I thought of this when I had that 18
day heavy period and hit every store I could, trying to find black pants.

For years, I spent almost every day wearing black pants. If I felt daring,
I might wear navy blue. I did own a very few pairs of pants in other colors
but it got to the point where I was pretty frightened to wear them, keeping
only the ones that specifically went with some top that I had, and wearing
it only after I was sure that my period had finished and I'd gone for
several days with no bleeding. My periods had gotten so erratic and at
times so heavy that I didn't dare wear anything but dark colors.

So now I have almost an entire rod of dark pants. Most are black. Then
navy blue. A few dark brown pairs. My last period was last May. So I
began feeling safe to wear some other colors. But because I have so many
pairs of pants and because they are still in good shape, I didn't feel that
I should buy any others. I did find some cheap leggings and sweatpants this
winter and I did buy a few in colors like gray, blue and sort of a medium
purple. And I wear them occasionally. But I still feel safer in the dark
colors.

I am not sure that I will ever go so far as to go the white/khaki or pastel
route. I have always hated the color white except for on walls. And for
some reason I prefer it there. I dislike white clothing. Even my wedding
dress was not white, but cream colored. I have very pale skin and do not
look good in white. I also look really bad in khaki and only own one thing
in that color. It's a tank top that I wear on occasion under a sheer top.
I did once own khaki pants. Not by choice. My parents had asked what I
wanted for my birthday and I said dark colored pants. Preferably black or
navy but if they couldn't find those, then burgundy or brown. So what did
they get me? Some sort of hideous khaki knit things with a weird weave to
them. I wore them a few times out of desperation. This was after I had my
daughter. I actually gained weight after I had her! So I needed more
clothes in the bigger size. But I didn't want many because I knew I would
lose weight.

So there I was, wearing those pants when a total stranger came up to me and
told me please to not wear those pants ever again. And I never did. It is
really an awful color on me. But I thought with the pants being so far away
from my face, I might be able to pull it off. Apparently not. Pastels
aren't really my best bet either. I can look good in some of them but I
prefer a more of a grayish tinge to the lighter colors that I wear. And I
tend to wear more medium to bright colors on top.

So... Was there a day when you went out and changed your wardrobe over to
the lighter colors? And if so, how far was it after you had your last
period?

I love black & white, either or, better, both. However, totally white
pants, skirts, or tops are stain magnets on me.

Coffee (any drinks), any sauce or dressing, will absolutely aim for white.

Consequently, I own no totally white anything.

Yeah. I'm a stain magnet too.

Now that I think about it, many years ago I did have a skirt blouse combo
that was white but it also had pink and blue embroidery on it. It was made
of gauze. It was comfortable but when I saw myself in a full length mirror
and realized how fat it made me look, I got rid of it.

Some time later I did have an all white skirt. This would never have been
my first choice of a color for anything but at some point I needed a skirt
for something and I found it for cheap. Maybe Nordstrom's? Don't remember.
But I pulled it out to wear to a wedding...yes...violating that don't wear
white to a wedding thing and saw a huge weird stain on it. It wasn't a food
stain but that sort of stain that only white clothes can get. Like a
discoloration. I had no washer or dryer so tried to hand wash it and get
the stain out. It wouldn't come out. So I wound up having to wear a black
and white skirt and a top that was out of season for a summer wedding. I
also had to wear some black sneakers because I didn't have any other shoes
that would go with it. That was one of those situations where I should have
prepared in advance because I had plenty of time to get a skirt before the
wedding. I was even asked to make cookies for the reception.

Now we know that my nephew is getting married (not sure when) so my daughter
and I have been on the lookout for cheap dresses. Since neither of us wears
dresses any more, I am unwilling to spend much money on them. But then I
was recently informed that we might not be invited. So now... Watch us not
buy dresses and then find out that we are invited!

My theory is: if i find a dress i actually *like* i get it so i'll
have it on hand. Of course, if too many years go by before
i use it, it will be out of style, but up to a point i don't care.
LOVE being free from the fashion world's tyranny. Old age
has its perks.

I was lucky, always knew when i was ovulating, so periods
never took me by surprise, even when they were radically
irregular. But I still avoided white and pale pants and skirts.
Partly because of the stain-magnet thing, partly because
they're not real flattering on those of us less slim.

I do like my medium-to-dark khaki capris and cargo pants.

How nice that you could tell when you were going to start! I never could
until maybe a couple of years before the last one. I began to get
migraines. I then knew that within a couple of hours after the pain began,
I'd be on.

purple, that's my colour. dark purple, deep violet, pale lilac, mauve.
I don't do black, even for formal. (I have one black dress, for
funerals - but I prefer to wear dark purple, which is also a mourning
colour) I do "office formal" in purple and pale lilac, or light pink
instead of black and white. ;-)

I do have a pair of white jeans, for summer wear. They were cheap and
they wash up well - can be bleached and boil washed.

My favorite colors are purple and red. I don't buy red clothing much though
because it's a pain to wash and I got sick of wearing it after having to
wear an ugly red smock or vest for many years. My eye glasses are purple
and so are a lot of my clothes. Family room used to be purple, green and
gold. Had to get a different, used couch in an ugly brown but hope to
rectify that soon. Found one in Eggplant that I really want.

Kitchen is red and black.

Black is a very big color for people to wear here so I probably would own a
lot of it anyway. It does go with everything!

OK, I'll join in. :-) The colors I wear have nothing to do with the colors I decorate with. What looks good on me and what I like to look at are two different things. I'm a Winter so most of my clothes are dark, bold and cool in color. I bought red rubber boots for the winter storms. They cheer me up in the gray gloom. I have orange, turquoise and beige details in my living room. The orange there cheers me up.

This past season I swore off black. Too many people wear that color in Norway. This winter, gray was in and I started to see too much of that. I've been trying to make sure I wear an actual color somewhere on me.

I've never had to think about the white pants conundrum except that pale colors show dirt more quickly, but I do own a pair. It's only my own lack of care stopping me from owning more, not my body (knock on wood).

I had my colors done back in the 80's. The lady couldn't decide if I was a
Spring or a Summer. So she called another consultant who also couldn't
decide. I have really pale skin, pea soup green eyes and dishwater blonde
hair that can get a slightly reddish tinge to it. She told me that I needed
to dye it with an ash shade. Which I have tried to do but it always seems
to fade out too much. So now I do dark blonde every once in a while. Yeah,
it will go reddish but fine.

The only colors I know of that I don't look good in are white, beige,
mustard yellow, burnt orange and sage green. But I did buy a top once some
years ago with a lot of reds and dark blues to it. Wild print. I had to
give it away. When I put it on, I felt like it was wearing me and not the
other way around. Might have been the print more than the colors though. I
can do reds and jewel tones. Had a gorgeous jewel toned blouse that I had
mail ordered but it was just too big for me. So big that people commented
on its largeness. So... Gave that away too.

Our colouring sounds pretty similar, Julie. (BTW you typed your reply
below Keera's sig so the email program made it "disappear"). Only thing
I'd say is that when you're talking about your "colours" - it's your
natural hair colour that counts, so when the consultant told you to dye
it, it makes it even harder to place you in a "season".

I used to colour my hair various shades of red/auburn and most people
thought I was a natural ginger.

My daughter's natural hair color is like mine but she has been dying it red.
Oddly enough it seems to match her eyes.

Red hair is the one thing that won't work on me. Unless it's "Black Cherry", something purplish. I'm a Winter, but there are variations (subtypes) within each season. I'm wondering which one I am.

I had a Winter friend who looked stunning in royal blue and bottle green. I can't wear either of those. OTOH, I look fantastic in red and cerise, colors she could never wear. We both had ash brown hair but different colored blue eyes. Hers were a medium blue, fairly pure in color, while mine are dark blue and with so much gray, sometimes the blue goes missing in photographs. I've read that Winter is the most common color season, and Autumn the rarest.

I would love to be able to rock red hair, but it just ain't happening. So I rock red colors instead. :-)
